Albert’s Story
“Robson, Robson—I am happy, I am happy.”
These joyful words belong to Albert, who has
been part of Abbott House’s Community Day
Habilitation program since 2018. Within this
supportive setting, Albert has found opportunities
that nurture his health, well-being, and
meaningful social connections alongside other
adults with different abilities.
This year, when art therapy expanded to include
Day Habilitation participants, Albert’s journey
took a powerful turn. He would come to class
asking for what he affectionately referred to as
the "big crayons." Since horses have always held
a special place in Albert’s heart, Teaching Artist
Robyn Ellenbogen would bring him small horse
trinkets from time to time from her travels. As
time passed, his creativity deepened. He began
creating freehand drawings of horses, drawn
entirely from memory, without tracing paper.
It was more than an artistic achievement; it was a
breakthrough. Albert discovered a powerful new
way to express himself, and it makes him happy.
Albert's experience is a powerful reminder that
creative expression can bring a profound sense
of belonging and meaning to your life - no matter
how young or old you are!
