STARS AND EGGS: AND
When Teaching Artist Robyn Ellenbogen
first began making art with men and
women in our Community Day Hab
Program, she noticed Diane often sat
alone in a small, quiet room outside of
the common space. One day, Robyn
invited everyone to join a painting
project that involved tracing hands and
embellishing them with color, glitter
and fabric.
Although no words were exchanged,
Diane eagerly participated. Robyn
noticed how much she was enjoying
the project and asked, “You really like
painting, don’t you?” Diane, looked up with a smile
and asked, “What’s your name?” It was a breakthrough
moment. Diane named her painting “Stars and Eggs,” and
the two shared a chuckle. That is the power of art.
Abbott House has a variety of volunteer-led art initiatives
ranging from craft and pottery classes to therapeutic art
ART AT ABBOTT HOUSE
sessions incorporating movement, poetry,
music, and mindfulness. Art activities foster
friendship and community; they serve as
doorways to healing, allowing individuals to
see the world—and themselves—in new and
transformative ways.
Our newest exhibit in the Hall of Dreams
Gallery entitled, "The Open Hand: Offering
and Receiving” supports these initiatives. Click
here to view the unique works of art made by
children, adults and staff.
We’re proud that art has a place at
Abbott House!
