LONG-TERM FAMILY FOSTER CARE &
TRANSITIONAL FOSTER CARE
Fair Futures is a youth-led advocacy, movement,
and coalition of over 100 organizations and
foundations advocating for all young people
in NYC’s foster care system to have access to
the long-term, comprehensive support services
they need to achieve their potential. Abbott
House’s T.E.A.M Program, in collaboration with
Fair Futures, supports young people in foster
care aged 11 to 26. It includes a middle school
program for high school preparation, education
advocacy, employment and career support, and
a coaching program that offers 1:1 coaching to
help our youth achieve academic, career, and
life goals.
The TRC Program cares for children who have
arrived in the United States unaccompanied
and without an adult guardian. After being
temporarily detained at the border, the
Department of Health and Human Services,
in partnership with the Office of Refugee
Resettlement, places these children in shortterm care programs run by agencies like
Abbott House. Children remain in our TRC
or TFC programs until a family member or
sponsor in the US is identified. If reunification
is not possible, children are placed in LTFFC
bilingual foster homes with the hope of eventual
adoption.
FOR ADULTS WITH DIFFERENT ABILITIES:
People with different abilities often have
capacities and strengths that are overlooked
in environments where “management” of
care overshadows growth. Their path to selfdiscovery and independence may be hindered,
unwittingly, by well-meaning caregivers. At
Abbott House, we encourage people with
different abilities to take an active role in
achieving their life’s potential.
SERVICES FOR PEOPLE
WITH DEVELOPMENTAL
DISABILITIES (SPDD)
In partnership with the Office for People
with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD)
Abbott House provides care and services to
over 100 adult individuals with intellectual
or developmental disabilities. We operate 16
Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs) that
these individuals call home, located throughout
Westchester, Rockland, and the Bronx. We also
offer three community-based day-habilitation
programs that provide enriching opportunities
that foster a true sense of belonging.
